Spooks galore!
There are big events in Tulsa. The Tulsa Run comes to mind as one, maybe the Route 66 Marathon. But the event of the year had to be the Masquerade Run Thursday night at RunnersWorld. What do you get when you combine great friends, running, and good food with costumes mixed in? Only about the most fun possible you can have wearing running shoes!Around 5:00 people started rolling in, most in strange running attire. Deon wore his ghost-busting gear. Kim was an OSU cheerleader. Kathy was....well, I am not sure.
Tatur Dave is a natural as a soccer player. Now we know why he is so fast!
Snow White (Jenni) was escorted by her two princes charming.
Ooooh ooh
Witchy Woman.
See how high she flies.
Ooooh ooh, Witchy woman.
She got the moon in her eyes.
Candice parked her broom outside.
I felt a little sorry for Ed. He had a splitting headache tonight.
Not sure what she was supposed to be, but Erin looks good in the new "do".
I didn't think Ronit could be any more cute than she is, but I have to say that freckles put her over the top!
Linda and Rachael dressed as Super Runner Girls. Heck, they ARE super runner girls!
Larry looks like he just stepped off the set of Harry Potter.
Love the togas! Lisa and Jason wear them well.
Carmie keeps it simple this year. Her costume tonight was a tank top. Come to think of, I've never seen her in a singlet or tank. She always wears sleeves. Carmie won the prize for best laugh.
Tough call, but can you pick out the devil-woman in this picture? Bad photographer did not get the festive socks in the picture. Sorry. :-(
Marvin dressed up tonight as....well...as himself. He did pass the bunny slippers on to Ronit. Congratulations!
Meow!!! Hiss hiss! Susan is bad luck, coming as a black cat!
I always thought Joe could talk a lot, but tonight he really showed his big mouth!
The Count trots out for three miles down Peoria. Bobby won the prize for best costume, and was regarded as the least likely to dress up.
Who ya gonna call??? GHOST BUSTERS!
Snow White and a wicked witch!
Must be Halloween....witches and black cats. Susan was the nicest looking cat of the evening.
Trail Zombie, as Thing 1, stops for a pic at Weber's Root Beer.
The Count feels right at home at the funeral parlor.
Teresa models a nice green nose. Actually, the green nose belonged to Roman. Roman would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.He is such a giving person.
Finally, I wanted to share this video. I was skeptical at first, but now I am fairly certain these folks have captured a ghost on film.Watch closely while the car passes through the trees. You can see the wisp of a ghost of an old woman who was killed on this stretch of road.

Tulsa Run
Saturday was the 31st running of the Tulsa's race. RunnersWorld was well represented with almost all of our training group doing either the 15K or 5K. I'm so proud of all who ran....some ran with ease, some labored a little down the long out-and-back on Riverside, everyone loved the nice hill going up Denver. It's only 364 days til next years Tulsa Run....put it on your calender!
Many of our group wore costumes. Ya won't find a more princess-like group of ladies than those in our group!Pictured from left to right are Cassy, Jen, Christal, Simone, Sarah, and Lauren. Stacy also ran as a princess, but I missed getting her in the pic.
Carmie, Cindy, Teresa, and Donna dressed up in 50s garb. Some of the cutest girls I have seen in a long while! My pic before the race had my lousy finger over the lens, and despite my photo editing skills, I could not make it look right! I did grab a quick snapshot during the race. Sorry Teresa. It was a quick moving shot. Maybe I was having a wardrobe malfunction at the time.
Coach Kathy and Debra ran as boxers. Roman served as the referee for this 15 round bout. No comment on the ring girl.
It's always a thrill running down Boulder in a sea of runners, nothing but bobbing heads and the sound of footfalls and laughing on a cool crisp day. There's nothing like it!
A big WTG for Tatur Dave, who ran a 3 minute PR, to Glenn for his 65 minute run, to Bobby for taking 10 minutes off his time last year. I am positive there are other PRs among our group. Some of you have already put race reports up on your blogs. Great reads! Anyone who would like to submit a report or some pictures, or even your times/PRs, I'll be thrilled to post them here on this blog. Email me at trail_zombie@yahoo.com
Happy trails!

River sightings
Pictures of scenes between 68th and 49th street along Riverside Drive, on a Tuesday evening. Lots of RunnersWorld runners....would you expect anything less? :-)
You've seen the commercials for Subway where they do the "Five....Five dollar....Five dollar foot longs...." jingle? Well, here, Jana and Ronit are practicing for their commercial debut!
I ran past the netting some 3 blocks to see what progress they were making with the new trails. Oops, that pic is from September 2nd. Here is today's pic.
A nice sunset shot.
DON'T MISS THE EVENT OF THE YEAR: TULSA'S UGLIEST FOOT CONTEST at the Tulsa Run Expo this Friday! See the promo on the RunnersWorldTulsa website.
There may be quite the smackdown between my feet: and Brian Hoover's feet:Be a contestant, be a spectator, be there or be square!

Monday blog
A few of our group ran a little extra credit miles Monday night at Turkey Mountain. Michael, Bobby and Susan met me at the Turkey Mountain parking lot for a few easy miles on the new paved bike trail. Susan biked.... did what a runner should do on a cross training day....CROSS TRAIN! The four of us took off easy, walking to warm up. Scratch that--Susan coasted down the hill and was a good mile down the trail before even slowing down. She came back to meet us about the time we started our run. Micheal cautioned us he might be slow as he had not ran in almost two weeks. But we stayed fairly close together for most of the first half of our run. Susan biked ahead and rode back to check in every 10 minutes or so. I am betting she rode a good 15 miles back and forth.
At the aroma plant, Michael headed back and wound up with around 3 miles running plus the warm-up and cool down walking. Bobby and I went on another 1/2 mile to give us 4 miles running.
Along the way back, we were passed by a freight train. But shortly after passing us, it slowed down considerably. Why? We wondered if the track is so bad through this section that extra caution is used. Maybe Michael had flagged it down for a ride back. But anyway, Bobby and I began to overtake the train. Imagine that! We were actually FASTER than a speeding freight train! But then train began to speed up and we picked up our pace as well. While I knew we would not pass it, at least I wanted to get to the RR crossing in time to have to WAIT for it to pass. (Hurry up to wait for a train....does that make sense?) We had been running around 13 minute miles but to keep up with the train, we were topping out at about an 8:10 pace, and that on an incline. Hey, pat us 40-somethings on the back! We did make it just barely in time to have to wait, a small victory, but a good excuse to sneak some speed work in. After that, we let the train go, and enjoyed a short walk break before finishing our run. Now, when we say we're going to the track for our speed workout, ya know where we'll be!
Anyone wanna join us, we run around 5:30 Monday nights at the Turkey Mountain parking lot and go 3-4 miles. After the time change, we will probably start running the loop around Zink Lake.

Thursday Potpourri
Our usual Thursday night run came and went with some running 3 miles, 4 miles, 6 miles, and more. A few walked a quick three, and Sonya walked her usual six. Before the run, we mulled around the store giving the casual visitor the impression that RunnersWorldTulsa was THE happening place on South Peoria. Kim, Jason, and Billy listen to the announcements from Coach Kathy and Dic Tatur Brian.
Myself, I have been eating everything is sight since last weekends run. I had my eyes on some mini Snickers on the counter. Upon reaching for one, I was stopped dead in my tracks by a grizzly zombie-like hand, and a red headed hag glaring at me. "Stay away from my stash!!!"
Johnny Spriggs, the president of the Tulsa Running Club, ran with us tonight. Johnny ran his 100th career marathon this past weekend. It was the Heartland Spirit of the Prairie 100 miler. He is a glutton for punishment. Just ask to see his feet. Despite the lack of skin on most of his heels and toes, Johnny ran 6.6 miles tonight all at a sub 9 minute mile pace. The old coot just would not walk!
Special props to this girl who finished her 3rd 100, with no DNFs.
Roman spent the weekend in Kansas with Johnny, Kathy, and T Z crewing and pacing. Here, it looks like he is still trying to catch up on his sleep.
Back in the 80s, there was a couple of movies starring John Belushi and Dan Akroyd called the Blues Brothers. They did a couple of pretty good albums if I recall. What I have just realized is that their kid sister runs with our group!! I told Simone she was the most photogenic girl in our group.
(I know, I have used that line before!) I'll get a better one next time! :-Þ
No pictures during the run due to some camera difficulties. My memory card was full and I swapped it for the one that actually came with the camera. Turns out it only held about eight pics! :(
Afterward, Brian, Larry, and Tatur Dave try to answer the age old question: What shoe is really the best?
