Thursday run from the store

Thursday night we had another group run. Fair to say, we rarely miss one, but I am thinking we might skip a Thursday in the next few weeks. (Ho ho ho!) Some of the new folks who have signed up for the spring session have been coming out. Last Tuesday, we had Emily (on the left) and Rebecca who braved the COLD temps and wind.

Tonight, we had a few new people as well! As this session progresses, there will be over 150 new faces, and it will be hard to get to know everybody, but we'll have fun trying! :)

Showing early signs of "stick-to-it-ness", Jenni and Emily are here and ready to run.

We welcomed April (on the left) and Stacy to our crew. They just THOUGHT they could just sneak in. :-p Also, Karla (pictured below) who claims to be as much of an obnoxious paparazzi as I am. Hmmm....might have to hire her services.

Another group of new faces were the Dorothy family. Tom and Julie, with oldest son Will, Wyatt, and a bashful Shannon came to run with us tonight.

Rock Star Ed sizes up a new pair of tights.

Superstar Susan shows that classic "front page" pose!

Ronit, as always, is all smiles on her way back to the store.

Persistance pays off as the pesky camera guy finally gets a pic of Jenni.

This shot was taken just before Candice snatched my camera and stomped it into pieces!......just kidding!

Just awake from her afternoon nap and sippy-cup, Runner Girl Rachel gets to go for a ride in the baby stroller.

After the run, it was down the street to Mazzio's for pizza and planning. A dozen or so run leaders met to discuss the new session. Sounds like we'll have a busy spring!

Mid-week recap

A quick recap of Sunmart. We had over 30 runners from our group or TATUR go to Sunmart to run in either the 50 mile or 50 kilometer race. No one from the RunnersWorld contingent failed to cross the finish line. I think that is AWESOME! Lisa, Jason, Bobby, and Jenni all finished their very 1st ultra. They all made it look easy. That's the Trail Zombies nephew Jeff in the middle. He also ran his 1st ultra. His longest run before was just 25K. He is only 17, and he won his age group. He would have even won his age group even if he was included in the 18-20 group too.

Cool Bobby the Vespa Man, along with Dana and Bob (who is wearing a very nice vest, I might add) hung out with me the whole way. Ya can't even measure the fun we had!

Now, just in case you wonder if the newbies group runs in cold weather, 15 of us ran on Tuesday night. It was cold! And, we all ran at least 3 miles, with some going 4! The proof.... Not the best picture, but IT IS the best group! Call me a pic picker if ya want....this is swiped from Cassy's blog. Now that's a good photograph!

See you all tomorrow!

A new blogger!

Hey guys and gals! Steve Huhn, an old friend of T Z, Brian, and Kathy has joined out Tues/Thur/Sat training group. He has been blogging off and on for couple of years, and wants to get back into tip top racing shape. Check out his blog from time to time. It's linked on the right.

Sign-up day!

Tonight was not just any Thursday. It was a cold 34 degree Thursday with a slight north breeze that had no effect at all while running out and south on the river, but froze me to the bone on the way back! But I digress....
Was it cold enough to scare a few runners away....well maybe. Not to name names, but can you spot the runners in this pic? (Ya have to admit, Marvin and Chris clean up pretty good!)

Roman sat out, but he has a longish hard to pronounce injury and is undergoing aggressive physical therapy for it. Lisa and Jason showed up, and left early but since they have to drive home to Wagoner, pack, and then leave early the next morning to drive to South Texas for the Sunmart 50K, I suppose they are excused. Similar story for Candice who uses the preggo card to not run. Hmmmph! (Just kidding guys. Ya know I love ya!)

But Phillip was ready to run!!!As were Bobby, Tatur Dave, Chrissy, and Jeff.

We had one new-comer with us, at least one who admitted it. Were there any hiding??? I don't bite!Debra joined us and we're glad to have you with us!

Then it was out to brave the elements. And yes, Carmie and Cindy were the "die-hard" runners in the above pic. Lauren ran with them but turned up the speed once she hit the river path.

Not too many good pics on the trail tonight, but some globo-gymer did lose a hat.

Upon returning, the store was PACKED with new people signing up for the winter/spring marathon and half marathon training. There were 92 new people signing up. Over 50 had signed up a couple of Mondays ago, and there have been several other sign-ups trickling in during the week. This, combined with all the rest of us is ONE AWESOME GROUP! Lots of new faces, new friends, and lots of future success stories. I can't wait!!!You just gotta love this kind of enthusiasm.

A lot of our runs the next few months will be after dark, so remember, it's always a good idea to wear reflective clothing.

And, the next time you see Brian, congratulate him for doing such a great job with his group presentation.

Tuesday chilly run, several new faces!

Soon oh so soon we'll begin another journey, another training session for races in the spring. Many peeps will make the trip over to OKC for the Memorial Marathon, one of the nicest marathons I have ever run. Some will opt for other races out of state. I here there will be a few going to Little Rock in March and staying at Lauren's. Others may go for the hills of Fayetteville at the Hogeye, while others may go south and run Houston, Austin, or Cowtown in Ft Worth where there will also be a 50K option.

40-50 people have already signed up for the next training session, and there is another sign-up tomorrow night at RunnersWorld.

Tuesday night we had a good turnout on a chilly night that actually was great for running. For those who are into this sort of thing, there was an awesome sunset Tuesday night.

Night pictures are not always my forte. My camera can take pictures underwater, stand up to the sweat of all day runs, it can be dropped from an airplane and still work, and can take pictures in Antarctica, but taking pics at dusk when there are orangish street lights in the parking lot, it gets a D-. :-( We did have a few people who signed up a week ago who came out early to get to know us. To the right is Jenni, in the center is Jenni, and to the left is Carmen. For those who are bad with names, if you call someone Lisa, Jenni, or Brian, odds are you'll get the name right. Also, "Hey You" works in a pinch.

Debbie came out tonight.
I know Debbie from a few trail races she has done with Tatur.
Her Mom and Dad are on the trails on Turkey more often than not.
Debbie joined us because she hates running.
But, she knows it's good for her and thinks our group will help keep her motivated.

Andy celebrates the big OU victory from last Saturday night. I always like it when a true fan wears his team shirt with pride after a well earned victory. Andy's fervent support of his beloved SOONERS might have very well helped them to victory, or at least helped squeak in the extra SOONER touchdown in the end. A true fan! BOOMER SOONER!

Afterwards, a gang of hungry runners found their way over to McAlsiter's Deli for some post run carbo-loading.Couldn't decide on what I wanted....
but finally took the cake.

Turkey leftovers

If you slept in Saturday morning while our group tackled the trails on Turkey Mountain...well, ya missed out on some fun. We basically broke up into two groups....one group stuck to the paved bike trails and did an out-and-back on the west bank, and the rest played in the dirt. The trail running contingent split into two group,...the fast and the not-so-fast. The resident blogger aligned himself with the pokier group.

Lisa gives her Asics Gel Trabucos a test run on the trails. Gotta have 'em ready by Sunmart.

If you park at the lower parking lot, it's a pretty sure thing you'll have to do a little climbing. And the pay-off is you get quite a bit of nice downhill after that.

One thing that is cool about running on Turkey Mountain....there are always some strange sights along the way
